It's been so long since I've shared a story I feel like a visitor here. It hasn't been for lack of want but rather lack of discipline to slow down and record what matters. Storytelling is an art venue to share meaningful experiences in life that can afford hope, purpose, and inspiration for the reader. Today's certainly is full of a little sorrow as well.
There's two themes present in today's story: first, is information that Rescue United Methodist Church on Rescue Road offers Celebrate Recovery on Sunday nights. It IS their Sunday night service. When speaking to the pastor Sunday night, I discovered a little more about the gathering. A couple years ago there was a "bad batch of heroine" that came through their little community and three people died. He said, "we can't NOT
do something to address this issue as a church." He also added that, because they felt so strongly about it, they
incorporated the event into their Sunday evening service. I LOVE THAT. It's kind of like an open AA meeting where anyone can attend. And doesn't everybody need recovering from something in life ...... pain, trials, suffering, addiction, etc.
So, I went Sunday night to show my support to Jarod and Tanya Andrews, the pastor and his wife whom
I've known for over a decade. I met a great group of folks. But my time there presented s second noteworthy story. As we broke bread together over dinner, Tanya and I had an opportunity to catch up for the first time in awhile.
Jarod and Tanya have three biological children but have been foster parents the entire time I've known them. They have now adopted two more enlarging their family to seven total, but Sunday night had four extra. She said DHR had called to attempt and place 19 kids within two weeks. NINETEEN KIDS!
There's a 1000 more things I could say about this story but I'll stick to two: if you have a free Sunday evening and could use some great Christian fellowship OR your in need of some inspiration for how to live out your purpose in life, visit the folks at Rescue On top of the mountain. You won't be disappointed.
