Finding Favour

When I first met Favour, I only knew her as the one who cared for the blind woman at Redeemed Bible Church. She was meek and quiet while faithfully serving the elderly woman.
Last year changed everything. During our final Sunday service of worshipping with our international partners, I noticed Favour had moved over to the far side of the women's choir to kneel and pray. Seeing many of the choir drop to their knees onto the dirt floor of the church was not abnormal. Yet, Favour refused to get up.

It appeared her prayers turned to tears before the Lord. I'm imagining that her tears turned to loud cries calling on God to be faithful to the promises she needed answered in her heart that Sunday. However, we could not hear her because the worship continued with increased shouts for joy to the Lord.
Once the women finished, the children came onto the center to share their dance and song offering to the Lord. Favour remained prostrate before the Lord.
As I worshipped, I found myself wondering what could be troubling her to this posture of surrender and submission before our Lord. Later I inquired of the pastor. Boy was I surprised!
Her parents from a nearby village had sent her to Mpigi to care for a blind relative, but now they needed money and were calling for her to return. They planned to marry Favour off in order to acquire the dowry for her in marriage. Favour was terrified and was pouring her heart out to God about the matter.
Favour has now been safely removed from the area and enrolled in boarding school where she is safe from her family's plans that would help them but harm their child. She is doing very well, although she's been out of school for a while. Her progress reports are good, and we are hopeful she will continue to grow in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
When Pastor Brian shared recent pictures of a school visit, my spirit launched into the story behind the picture. My heart longs for additional partners to help fund educational endeavors for the children of Redeemed Bible Church.
We are in the process of building a church school, so the tuition the ministry now pays may go toward teacher salaries as well as provide gainful employment for women and men in the church.
Let me know if you're interested in learning more of how to get involved. Our River of Life website should be live soon!
